ResumeTabs is a Chrome extension that saves your browsing session so you can restore it later. This policy explains exactly what it handles and where that data goes. The short version: everything stays on your device. We do not collect, receive, sell or share any of your data, because the extension has no server to send it to.
What the extension stores
To restore your session, the extension stores the following, locally, in Chrome’s own extension storage on your computer:
- The address, title and icon of your open tabs
- Tab order, pinned tabs, window layout and tab groups
- Which tab was active
- How far down each page you had scrolled
- The playback position of video and audio on a page
- Text you had selected, if that setting is on
- Unfinished text in ordinary text fields — off by default, only if you turn it on
What it never stores
- Passwords, and anything in a password box
- Card numbers, expiry dates and security codes
- One-time passcodes and recovery codes
- PINs, ID numbers and passport numbers
- Bank and account numbers
- Email addresses, phone numbers and home addresses
- Hidden fields, file pickers, and anything on a form with a password on it
- Anything typed on a sign-in, sign-up or checkout page
- Anything at all from Incognito
Where your data goes
Nowhere. The extension makes no network requests of its own. It has no account system, no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting and no external AI or API services. Your data is never transmitted to us or to anyone else.
Sale and sharing
We do not sell, rent, transfer or share your data with any third party, for any purpose. We do not use it for advertising, for creditworthiness or lending decisions, or for anything unrelated to restoring your session.
Permissions
- tabs — to read the address, title and order of your open tabs so a session can be saved and restored.
- storage and unlimitedStorage — to keep your sessions and settings on your device.
- tabGroups — to preserve the name, colour and state of your tab groups.
- alarms — to check in once a minute, so a session is not lost if Chrome closes unexpectedly.
- Access to web pages — to note your scroll position and media playback position on each page, and put them back when you restore. It does not run in Incognito, on Chrome’s internal pages, or inside other sites’ embedded frames.
Incognito
The extension declares itself as not allowed in Incognito, so Chrome does not load it there at all. Nothing from an Incognito window is ever recorded.
Deleting your data
Open the extension’s settings and choose Clear all saved data to erase every saved session and setting immediately. Uninstalling the extension also removes all of its data. Because nothing was ever uploaded, there is no other copy.
Children
The extension does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children, because it does not collect information at all.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date. If a future version of the extension ever needs to handle data differently, this page and the Chrome Web Store listing will be updated before that version is released.
